AcceleDent

AcceleDent® Potentially Speeds Up Orthodontic Treatment

Patients Receive Healthy, Beautiful Smiles Faster!

Burke & Redford Orthodontists understand our patients want beautiful, healthy smiles but they wouldn’t mind wearing their braces or aligners for a shorter time. Using orthodontic acceleratory devices like Propel® or AcceleDent, patients may wear their braces or aligners for less time with the same great results.

AcceleDent is a portable, removable, hands-free orthodontic accessory that may decrease a patient’s time in braces or Invisalign®. Some have also claimed that AcceleDent relieves braces pain.

What Is AcceleDent?

Portable AcceleDent Device for Patients Using Invisalign to Help Accelerate Treatment at Burke & Redford Orthodontists in Temecula and Lake Elsinore, CA.

AcceleDent is a portable, hands-free vibratory orthodontic device that has been cleared by the FDA for use as a Class II medical device. It is a single user device that is only available by prescription.

AcceleDent consists of two parts—an activator and a mouthpiece that fits over braces. The unit can also be used by Invisalign users, who simply need to remove their tray during use. The mouthpiece can be removed from the activator for cleaning.

Patients use AcceleDent for approximately 10-20 minutes every day. During its use, AcceleDent gently vibrates using patented SoftPulse® technology, which uses less force than an electric toothbrush and 200 times less force than chewing. These vibrations improve the “seating” of the clear aligners, a term that describes making them fit to each tooth more intimately. This leads to teeth moving with increased precision and efficiency.

The device connects to an app that lets patients track their usage time—keeping them accountable.

How Does AcceleDent Work?

When the AcceleDent mouthpiece is in the mouth, it emits vibrations called micropulses. These vibrations are transmitted from the roots of the teeth to the surrounding bone. The theory here is that this increases cellular activity—allowing teeth to move more freely and into place more quickly. In reality, the biggest advantage to using an AcceleDent device is that it allows clear aligner trays to fit more intimately to the teeth, leading to better results.

One of the critical parts of orthodontic treatment is the leveling and aligning process. Leveling moves teeth to the same height, while aligning moves teeth to their correct position in the dental arch. AcceleDent assists in accomplishing this during Invisalign braces treatment. Technically, Invisalign are not braces, but some patients commonly refer to them together.

Patients may experience an increase in the rate of tooth movement with these acceleratory devices. Another acceleratory device used in our office, called Propel, is clinically proven to speed up orthodontic treatment.

How To Use AcceleDent

For best results, AcceleDent should be used every day for approximately 10-20 minutes. Using the unit for more than 20 minutes offers no added benefit. Usage is simple and straightforward.

  • Plug the mouthpiece into the activator.
  • Turn on the unit (the green light will light up).
  • Bite down firmly to hold in place—no hands needed.
  • Keep in the mouth for the desired amount of time. Because the unit is hands-free, patients are free to watch TV, surf the Internet, listen to music, or read a book.
  • Once the prescribed time is up, detach the mouthpiece and wash it using toothpaste or a mild soap and rinse thoroughly.
  • Charge the unit for the next day.

  • Requires very little time commitment each day.
  • Lightweight, comfortable, and painless.
  • Removable, so no one knows you are using it.
  • Safe for use by children, teens, and adults.
